The Bathroom Mini Makeover

OK so some of you may know and some of you have even seen it, but our bathroom is something that well just makes you want to shut the door on it. Fernando and I (and others) have worked very hard throughout the upstairs of our home. Between painting, flooring and kitchen cabinets everything is looking updated and refreshed. Except for the dreaded bathroom. Yes the sore thumb to my beautiful upstairs. I have always been a little embarrassed of the bathroom and usually always caution those who would visit to please keep in mind the house is a work in progress. I know most people could careless, but for me it just bothered me. So I decided to take control of the situation. We don't have much $$ to put into the bathroom so it will have to be strictly cosmetic and hopefully just a little paint and things will finish it up nicely.

So I started looking around to see what I could find. I knew we still had some paint from the rest of the house so of course I will just use what I have, even though I know this is not the color that I want for my remodeled bathroom this will have to do for the mini makeover. So I took it upon myself to start on this aspect. What next? The cabinets. OK the cabinets are a very outdated wood color. OK the reason for description of wood color is because they are not actually wood. They are plastic (brought to me by the attention of Donette). Plastic cabinets, yes I know crazy. Anyway so something had to be done about this so I bought some spray paint and went to town, fumes and all. With a few glitches along the way they turned out OK.

Now the next project or eye sore is the sink. I would have to say that the sink is 30 years old along with the faucets, hard water and pipes. So what do you do in this case. Yeah I tried cleaning it with everything and anything, but it was not coming clean. So I decided to just take a chance and see what I could find on KSL. I mean a new sink was going to cost me $30 and then a faucet another $20 or so, and well its hard to justify that type of money when I know in a year or two we will be ripping the entire thing out to really remodel it. Well luck was on my side and I found a nice porcelain sink along with the faucet for $25. It was great so I pulled out the old one did a little plumbing underneath. Yes i would say the pipes underneath were probably 30 years old too. I went ahead and changed the drain pipes and put on new on/off valves and now everything is like new. Yes ladies I did this myself (ok lets give some credit to Fernando, one of the old pipes was rusted on so I did have him get that loose for me) other then that I did everything else. (Thanks dad for letting me watch all those years at home.)

So lets see now we have a fresh coat of paint a new sink, I removed the old mirror with the medicine cabinet underneath and now the flooring. The flooring is outdated, white and shows every little hair. So I went over to Lowes and found some peel and stick tiles and put them down. Wow what a change that did for the bathroom. Well I have done a few other things, but not quite done yet. I had to order a couple of accessories and am expecting to see those in the mail later this week. So as soon as it is all done I will post the finish project. I will have to tally everything together and let you know the final cost. But i have gone ahead and included some of the before pictures and will post the final pics in the next week or so. Sorry to keep you hanging.
